It’s that time of year again when the weather is warming up and our lawn is starting to grow. We can now start to think about giving a winter-tired lawn a much-needed spring refresh with a spring lawn renovation. Here’s everything you need to perform a thorough and successful lawn renovation this spring.
Prepare for renovation
Before you start your renovation, you want to make sure your lawn is in good health, free of weeds and well into its growing season. Depending on the weather, in South Australia, we recommend to start planning your lawn renovation by the end of September and to perform the de-thatch/low mow in October.
First, you want to target any established weeds you have in your lawn as it comes out of winter and into spring. As they pop up, treat weeds with Estate Herbicide or a selective herbicide specific for the weed you are targeting. See our weed guide here to identify your current weed and recommended product for treatment. Estate is a great herbicide to have on hand for common broadleaf weeds we come across regularly in SA.

Once your lawn is visually weed free, a couple of weeks prior to your renovation apply soil wetter Lawn Soaker, bug prevention Grub Guard Ultimate and weed pre-emergent Oxafert. These products will ensure your lawn and soil are well hydrated and protected from both bugs and weeds before your renovation.
Starting your Renovation
Now it’s time for your renovation. A full renovation includes a low mow or dethatch, aeration and topdressing. You can perform all steps or just one or two depending on what you are trying to achieve. Find out more about these renovation steps here or download our spring renovation guide here.
After you have performed these steps, your lawn is likely a little stressed and not looking so great. Now is the time to apply Lawn Solutions Premium Lawn Food onto your recently mown lawn and water in deeply. This slow-release fertiliser will give your lawn a boost over the coming weeks to help it recover from the renovation.
You can then use Exceed Liquid Fertiliser 2-3 weeks post renovation to ensure the lawn continues to grow back thick and strong.
And that’s the only 6 products you need to totally refresh your lawn this spring! You can purchase all products separately or buy together and save with our ‘Spring Renovation’ pack.
