Eureka Kikuyu Grass
Eureka Kikuyu PBR
An excellent economical all-rounder instant lawn.
A proven performer in most Australian climates, Eureka Kikuyu is a vigorous grower that stands up to a wide range of conditions.
Preferring a sunny aspect, Eureka Kikuyu is a dense, rapid growing lawn. Its vigorous growth habit allows it to repair very quickly if damaged and is able to establish a strong, deep root base to help it stand up to the hottest summer days.
Why Eureka Kikuyu is Such a Versatile Lawn
Eureka Kikuyu PBR spreads by its vigorous growth from stolons (runners) and rhizomes (rootstalks) and is a coarse textured grass with a high growth rate. It grows both on top and underneath the ground popping up in new areas. The leaves are approximately 4 – 5mm wide and 25 – 40mm long and are yellow – green in colour.
Eureka Kikuyu is a great solution for planting out larger areas and erosion control, given the rapid aggressive spread of its runners in favourable conditions. It has good tolerance of waterlogged soil as it stores and moderates water usage well.
This grass grows faster than any other lawn grass and as a result, it is most suited to large open expanses such as sports fields, golf greens etc, where mowing, invasion of gardens or excessive shade is not an issue.

Greener for Longer
Don’t settle for a brown dead lawn in summer. BBQ in style on lush green grass this year.
Remaining healthy and green throughout the harsher Australian climate is something Eureka Kikuyu grass does best. Deep roots keep it lush and green in the hottest of summer, makes it drought tolerant and enables survival through gardener neglect.
The cooler months don’t get the better of it either. It will withstand excess water and lower temperatures. Although the Eureka Kikuyu is known to maintain an even colour year round, it may brown in winter frost but will return to its lush green colour once the weather normalises.
Looking after Eureka Kikuyu
Eureka Kikuyu benefits from rapid growth and repair and will require a bit more maintenance than other lawn varieties. A regular lawn care regime will be the easiest and best way to maintain a healthy and happy lawn for life.
Watering
Once established, Eureka Kikuyu is a hardy grass that can survive drought conditions and will recover quickly once watered. It’s common for people to water their lawn every day for 10 minutes for its whole life, however, this isn’t best practice. Once established, your lawn will benefit a lot more from long (e.g. 1 hour) deeper soaks less frequently (once a week). This will encourage strong root development and a healthy, happy lawn that can better withstand seasonal changes such as drought and frost.
Fertilising
We recommend to fertilise your Eureka Kikuyu around four times a year ideally in March, April, September and December or at the change of every season. September and April are particularly beneficial to give your lawn the strength to tolerate our cold winters and then to bounce back again in Spring. A high quality, slow release granular fertiliser such as Lawn Solutions Premium Fertiliser is highly recommended for a slower and more constant does of nutrients.
Mowing
Eureka Kikuyu is a naturally fast growing lawn that requires a bit more upkeep than other varieties. During its peak growing season you should mow every 4-7 days. Regularly mowing your lawn will promote thick and even growth and promote your lawns overall health. Ensure that your mower blades are sharp and that you never mow more than 1/3 of the leaf off at one time.
