Developed by turf scientists at the Barenbrug Research Facility, Lawn Solutions Australia’s RTF lawn is a superior tall fescue variety that is a deep-rooting, thick, lush, cool season grass with tolerance to heat and dry conditions.
As a superior cool climate tall fescue, it also is the perfect shade tolerant turf as they both go hand-in-hand.
RTF Tall Fescue has the highest winter -colour retention of virtually all turf types available in Australia. It is a deep rooting cool season grass with roots that can travel up to 2 metres underground. It can access water not normally available and therefore performs better then any other cool season grass during our hot S.A summers.
With its self repairing rhizome root system, RTF fills bare spots in a thinning lawn, thereby minimising over-seeding.

RTF is the best performing cool season grass during the hotter months of the year. It thrives on less water through summer than other Tall Fescue varieties such as Kentucky Blue and Perennial Ryegrass.

Cool season turf grass such as tall fescue loves water. But with conservation measures being enacted across the globe, it should be noted that RTF thrives on less water than older Tall Fescue varieties.
Lawn Solutions Australia observed how cool season grasses (like tall fescue) would maintain turf quality under drought conditions. Turf grasses were evaluated after reducing water by 15% and 30%, way below what is considered ideal to maintain quality.
RTF performed better than any other cool season grass – during the hottest months of the year RTF also performed better than Kentucky and Texas Bluegrass, perennial ryegrass and other tall fescues highly ranked by the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program.

Looking after RTF Tall Fescue
RTF Tall Fescue is a winter active lawn so requires maintenance throughout the entire year. A regular lawn care regime will be the easiest and best way to maintain a healthy and happy lawn for life.
Watering
RTF Tall Fescue requires more frequent watering than other lawn varieties, especially during extended periods of warm weather. You will, however, be rewarded with a lush, green lawn all year round. It’s common for people to water their lawn every day for 10 minutes for its whole life, however, this isn’t best practice. Once established, your lawn will benefit a lot more from long (e.g. 1 hour) deeper soaks less frequently (once or twice a week). This will encourage strong root development and a healthy, happy lawn that can better withstand seasonal changes such as drought and frost.
Fertilising
We recommend to fertilise your RTF Tall Fescue at least four times a year ideally in March, April, September and December or at the change of every season. A high quality, slow release granular fertiliser such as Lawn Solutions Premium Fertiliser is highly recommended for a slower and more constant does of nutrients.
Mowing
RTF Tall Fescue has been bred to have vigorous growth and repair characteristics through its heightened rhizome growth and activity. It will need to be maintained all year round as it grows through all seasons. Do not dethatch your RTF Tall Fescue as it will not respond or recover well. Regularly mowing your lawn will promote thick and even growth and promote your lawns overall health. Ensure that your mower blades are sharp and that you never mow more than 1/3 of the leaf off at one time.
