There are many reasons why laying lawn in autumn is great (for you and for your lawn!), find out why here:

Time for root establishment before Winter
There is still a few months left before the real cold weather of winter arrives. This means there is plenty of time for your new lawn to establish a good and strong root system before winter comes around.
A lawn that has recently established is often at peak health and therefore ready and prepared to manage the cooler weather.

Chance of rain
Rainfall increases throughout autumn which means you won’t have to water your lawn as regularly to get it established. A newly laid lawn usually requires watering a few times a day so that it doesn’t dry out. This can be skipped if the rain does it for you.

Cooler weather
The summer sun can be harsh on newly establishing lawn. As the weather cools down into autumn, your new lawn won’t dry out as quickly. This means it doesn’t need watering as much to establish. It will also be less stressed through the establishment period.

It’s also a nice time for the physical laying of instant lawn – no-one wants to lay turf in 40 degree heat!
In Autumn, you’re more likely to get a cooler day which makes preparation and lawn laying a much more enjoyable experience!

Mow less
After establishment your lawn will start to grow slower through the cooler weather, so you won’t have to be mowing it regularly until springtime.
