Hey Kirsty!
You have been a Lawn Consultant at The Turf Farm for 5 years, congratulations!
What does your typical day as a Lawn Consultant look like? and is there even such a thing as a ‘typical’ day?
Thank you, yes 5 years, has gone by fast!
As a Lawn Consultant, we work in our office and answer emails and phone calls from customers around South Australia! It’s great because we cover a diverse range of customers and you never know who is going to call next. We work together as a team in the office with daily enquiries coming through and completing follow up calls and emails each day. We get to go on the journey with the customer from initial idea, to consulting them on their area, ordering, and seeing how their brand new lawn looks in their new home.
Sounds great! What would you say is the most satisfying part of your job?
Every day there is something different or new, so you’re always learning in this role.
And what do you like the least (be honest!)?
Dealing with tricky customers. They’re few and far between, but we want all our customers to be happy so it can be hard when they’re not.
Can you think of a moment or a customer that really stuck with you?
Oh, there are so many!
After training and preparing all of your lawn knowledge, your first customer and your first official order really sticks with you.
What’s something about being a Lawn Consultant that would surprise most people?
Dealing with some larger public projects (that you might get to scope out later) and trades (and the occasional celebrity!) has been super amazing, and not something I first realised when I took this job.
What’s the lawn equivalent of nails on a chalkboard for you — the thing that makes you wince every time you hear/see it?
People not installing lawn in a ‘brick-like-fashion’, this can make your lawn prone to drying out and makes it harder to establish nicely – don’t forget to top dress those joins/edges with a fine washed sand/soil!
If you could teleport to any lawn in the world right now, where would you go?
Wow, good question! I am not sure maybe somewhere on an island as I would love to know what lawns they have and how they got it there. I’m sure their truck (aeroplane?) logistics are a nightmare.
After a long day helping customers with their lawn, what’s the one thing you look forward to most when you get home?
Relaxing, going for a walk, catch up with family/friends or catch up on a series.
Thanks Kirsty for your time!
